Natural Light Portrait Photography in Connecticut

Mylin Bennett

Some of the strongest portraits come from simple light, real expressions, and a relaxed environment.

This session with Mylin Bennett at Middlesex Community College in Connecticut was photographed entirely with natural light using an 85mm lens. Instead of shooting directly in harsh sunlight, the model was positioned just inside open shade while the bright concrete sidewalk reflected soft light back upward, acting almost like a giant natural softbox.

The result is soft, flattering light with natural contrast and realistic skin tones without the artificial look that heavily edited portraits sometimes create.

What made this session especially authentic was that Mylin’s poses developed naturally during the shoot. Rather than forcing rigid posing, the goal was to create an environment where movement and expression felt comfortable and genuine.

The editing process was intentionally minimal. Final images were refined carefully in Lightroom Classic and Evoto to preserve natual skin tones and noting artificial.

The focus of this style of photography is realism with polish, not over-retouching.

This type of portrait session is ideal for:

  • senior portraits

  • college graduates

  • creative portraits

  • portfolio work

  • lifestyle photography

  • modern black and white portraits

Sessions are relaxed, guided when needed, and designed to create images that feel natural while still looking refined and editorial.
